At a national level from Nov 2016 – Nov 2017 there was a 17% price appreciation in the real estate market. Which was the largest annual increase since 2006.
The demand for housing is very strong due to a powerful economy, strong stock market, and low unemployment rate.
The supply is for housing is still not caught up from a construction standpoint to meet the demand. The construction industry really ramped up a lot in 2017 in terms of the number of people employed n the industry and the spending.
The top two cities in price appreciation were LA and NY. Respectively, there is a lot of demand to work in these cities because of the nature of the available work. The West Coast has a much larger demand for real estate than the East Coast but the East Coast is on the rise.
